Job Summary:

Under direct physician supervision, provides primary patient care and determines normal from abnormal imaging examinations and assesses the radiographic findings to determine if immediate radiologist interpretation is needed. Increases the accessibility to quality radiologic health care and allows the radiologist to concentrate on highly technical requirements of interpretation. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of ones actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • This position, knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs. Reports safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.

  • Performs selected fluoroscopic procedures, static and dynamic, evaluates imaging procedures to determine normal from abnormal and provides the radiologist with a technical report.

  • Performs selected invasive procedures, such as arthrograms, fluid drainage, placement of naso-gastric tubes, PICC lines, and any other procedures in which competency has been demonstrated.

  • Evaluates medical images, reviews preliminary reports and images with radiologists, and dictates final reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising staff radiologist.

  • Participates in patient management by obtaining additional images or imaging studies necessary for accurate diagnosis. Assesses and evaluates the current physiological and psychological status of each patient.

  • Administers intravenous medications and contrast media, under the supervision of a licensed physician.

  • Gathers pertinent information from the patient regarding health status and medical history as it relates to the diagnostic process, to assess its relevance to the imaging procedure and to patient management.

  • Analyzes medical image findings throughout the procedure to provide a comprehensive examination and to obtain sufficient data in order for the physician to provide appropriate patient management and render a final diagnosis.

  • Establishes that procedures performed comply with applicable protocols, documents if modifications were made in the protocol and determines if additional images will enhance the diagnostic value of the procedure.

  • Maintains values congruent with the Code of Ethics, as well as adheres to national, institutional and/or departmental standards, policies, and procedures regarding the standards of care for patients.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.

Education

  • Bachelors of Radiologic Sciences degree from an educational program recognized by the Board of Directors of the Certification Board of Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBRPA).

License, Certification, Registration

  • Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

  • Radiology Practitioner Assistant Certificate from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

Additional Requirements:

  • Credentialed to provide primary radiology health care with physician supervision.
