Position Summary

Performs advanced and complex level-specific activities related to research projects in the Division of Population Sciences. Assists Division Chair and other research personnel in managing the operational and technical aspects for multiple studies within the Outcomes Research, Etiology and Behavioral Oncology programs. Manages personnel issues, including staff supervision and training, recruitment of new staff, assistance with the hiring process, completion of performance evaluations, motivation, counseling and directing staff, and resolving work-flow issues. Assists in writing grants, manuscripts, abstracts, and research reports. Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory documents and submissions are current and ensure the compliance of all research protocols approved by the City of Hope IRB as well as other regulatory agencies. Must be able to function independently and proficiently as defined in the position accountabilities

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Functions as a resource to divisional staff within theDivision of Population Sciences.Provides clarification or recommendations as appropriate toadministrative, personnel or other activities related to research projects inthe Division.

  • Manages personnel issues, including staff supervision andtraining, recruitment of new staff, assists with hiring process, completion ofperformance evaluations, counseling and directing staff, and resolvingwork-flow issues.

  • Assists Principal Investigators with IRB tracking,submission, and correspondence.Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory documents and submissionsare current and ensure compliance of all research protocols approved by theCity of Hope IRB as well as other regulatory agencies.

  • Reviews protocols for data management requirements andworkload assignments.

  • Assists Division Chair and other research personnel inmanaging the operational and technical aspects for multiple studies within theOutcomes Research, Etiology and Behavioral Oncology programs.

  • Works closely with Division Administrator in business–related and fiscal activities, including but not limited to budget preparationand monitoring, purchasing, personnel, time and attendance.

  • Supervises the overall responsibilities of the day to dayactivities of Clinical Research Coordinators and Assistants, Conducts personnelperformance reviews, soliciting feedback from all relevant Project Managers,staff members, and Department/Division leads.

  • Participates in the training and quality control monitoringof Population Sciences Clinical Research Coordinators (PSCRCs) to ensure properdatabase management; promoting accuracy, overall efficiency, uniformity.

  • Assists the Division Chair, Principal Investigators andCo-Investigators in the preparation grant proposals, manuscripts, abstracts,and research reports.

  • Serve as a liaison between Division Chair, City of Hoperesearch team and investigators at outside institutions. Consults with funding agencies, researchcollaborators and participating institutions as necessary. Ensure timely submission of data from outsidecenters according to protocol requirements.

  • Makes recommendations and participates in Policy andProcedure development and revision for the Division of PopulationSciences.

  • Attends meetings and participates on committees asrequired. Communicates relevant issuesto the Department/Division heads, or other appropriate staff members.

  • Uses good judgment to bring problem areas and issues to theattention of the appropriate Department/Division heads.

  • Maintains professional growth and development throughseminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintaincertification/licensure and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field ofexpertise.

  • Is self-motivated in organizing and following through onassigned projects.

  • Ensures work environment is organized and functionsefficiently.

  • Attends and participates in meetings required.

Basic education, experience andskills required for consideration:

  • Musthave an Bachelor’s Degree

  • Must have at least five years of experience in anacademic or research environment.

  • Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel

  • Supervisory experience required

  • Must have excellent oral/written communication andorganizational skills.

  • Must understand Medical Terminology

  • Must have the ability to:

  • Communicate technical information in a clear, concisemanner

  • Monitor and train other employees

  • Master content across all clinical research areas

  • Ability to foster/promote a positive image andprofessional appearance.

  • Access data in computer data bases

  • Proofread documents

  • Research information

  • Compile data

  • Use computer packages

  • Use word-processing software

  • Troubleshoot problems

  • Familiarity with Statistics

Preferred education experience andskills:

  • Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences, Public Health,or related field.

  • Experience in Medical Record, Health InformationSystems, or related health field Clinical Trials

  • Public Health - Epidemiology

  • SOCRA Certification
