Job Description

General Scope of Duties

Provide leadership and spiritual support to the Muslim Community at Connecticut College and support the efforts of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Programs to create opportunities for spiritual and religious exploration for students and the larger community. This position is a term appointment ending May 2024 with the possibility of renewal in the fall.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with College Chaplains to support religious and spiritual programs for students and the larger community and participate in Multi-Faith Events.

  • Provide the college community with pastoral care in times of death, loss, or other crisis situations.

  • Maintain weekly office hours for 1:1 with students.

  • Attend regular ORSP staff meetings.

  • Advise the Muslim Student Association.

  • Coordinate accommodations for Muslim students around religious holidays.

  • Work with ORSP and students to plan meals after sunset during Ramadan and to help student observe other Muslim holidays

  • Facilitate weekly Juma prayer

  • Potential opportunity to teach related coursework in Arabic Language or Islamic Studies

    Education and Skills

  • Requires Bachelors degree in a related field and 4 – 5 years experience including proven ability to work with young adults

  • Excellent oral and written communications and active listening skills; ability to communicate within a diverse community

  • Ability to engage constituencies in discourse

  • Ability to foster and build a community that supports inclusion of differences

  • Understanding of faith traditions and interfaith work

  • Strong administrative skills

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines

  • High integrity needed to handle confidential information

  • Travel as required to fill the obligations of the position
