Position description:

Overlook Medical Center, a member of the prestigious Atlantic Health System, is seeking to hire a part-time Jewish Chaplain with flexible days including weekends for 22.5 hours a week with benefits.

Essential functions/responsibilities:

• Primarily responsible in meeting the spiritual/religious needs of Jewish patients and their families in the hospital. This includes providing the opportunity for these patients to observe their Jewish liturgical celebrations/ceremonies

• Provide spiritual care also to patients who are non-Jewish

• Participate in the shared on-call rotation as one of the chaplains in the department

• Provide educational support to team members regarding Jewish culture, various beliefs and practices

• Assume other duties as assigned by the Spiritual Care Manager

Education

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, university or Theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (www.chea.org) in Divinity, Theology, Spiritual Care, or a related discipline required. Master's degree in related discipline preferred.

• Equivalencies for the undergraduate and/or graduate level theological degree will be granted by the individual professional organizations according to their own established guidelines

• Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) strongly preferred via one of the following licensing groups: issued by the Association for Professional Chaplains (APC) Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc. (BCCI), the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama: National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), or the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP) or an equivalent.

• Able to provide documentation of current endorsement of good standing in accordance with the requirements of his/her own faith or spiritual tradition

• Documented completion of two (2) Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units, but willing to acquire two or more units within two years and achieve board certification

Experience:

• 1-2 years of chaplain experience in healthcare setting preferred
