Atlantic Health System Chaplain - Priest (FT) in NJ, United States

Atlantic Health System is seeking a full-time Chaplain/Priest for the Spiritual Care department at Overlook Medical Center, which is for 37.5 hours per week, requiring flexibility in work schedule. Occasionally, he will be called to the bedside during the night.

Responsible for providing spiritual care to patients, their families, and staff. Supports management and initiatives for both pastoral bedside services as well as the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. Provides religious counseling and supportive care and guidance.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Primarily responsible in seeing Catholic patients newly admitted, especially those in specialized areas – Pre-surgical, Intensive Care, Cardiac Care, Emergency Room, Infusion (Cancer) Center, Isolation, and Oncology

  • Responsible for the administration of sacraments and the religious needs of Catholic patients – Sacrament of the Sick, Reconciliation, Confession, Baptism, etc.

  • Offers patients the opportunity to receive Communion with the assistance of the eucharistic ministers

  • Responsible in recruiting, organizing, and training eucharistic ministers and documenting their services in Epic

  • Assists patients and families at time of crisis – prolonged and terminal illness, death, times of fear, depression, and loneliness

  • Available to hospital staff for counseling and support

  • Celebrates the mass as scheduled

  • Responsible for planning and conducting liturgical celebrations/ceremonies for our Catholic population in the hospital

  • Documents in Epic all patient visits and other services rendered

  • Willingly assists the department in providing spiritual care to patients who are non-Catholic

  • Attends to requests or referrals in a timely manner

  • Supports the CPE Program being conducted through the Spiritual Care Department

  • Reports directly to the Spiritual Care Manager

Required:

  • Ordained Roman Catholic priest.

  • Master’s degree in related discipline

  • Completion of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) by a nationally accredited body.

  • Obtained faculty or good standing from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark to perform religious duties in the hospital.

Preferred:

  • Completion of minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) by a nationally accredited body.

  • Board certified by a nationally accrediting body.

  • Experience working in hospital or healthcare setting.

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
