Kaiser Permanente Assistant Director, Imaging Solutions in Pasadena, California

Job Summary:

Provides management and leadership of the Imaging Solutions Design functional group within the Medical Imaging Technology and Informatics (MITI) department ensuring that the group produces timely, high quality solutions that align with and support regional enterprise informatics strategy. Collaborates with physician and operational leaders to understand organizational needs and goals as they pertain to the development of imaging informatics solutions. Oversees the architecture and development of effective, scalable, supportable informatics capabilities that enable strategic organizational goals and initiatives through optimal use of imaging equipment, applications and technology. Serves as subject matter expert in all phases of medical informatics system and application architecture and development.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage staff of the Solutions Design functional group.

  • Ensure that the group produces results which are timely, high quality, relevant, and aligned with enterprise informatics strategy.

  • Oversees the development of solutions for highly visible, sensitive and multi-faceted informatics projects which contain problems of unusual complexity and require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation.

  • Acts a point of escalation for solving technical and application challenges.

  • Oversees the optimization of informatics applications as they relate to organizational goals and initiatives

  • Maintains expert knowledge of informatics industry standards, practices, and future directions.

  • Participates in and may lead forums, technology assessments and other efforts related to medical informatics.

  • Performs knowledge transfer to other staff and reviews the work of other staff.

  • Establishes effective professional business relationships with all levels of management.

  • Some travel required.

  • Monitors and evaluates performance of solutions design staff and takes appropriate action

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in all phases of medical informatics system development, implementation, and support required.

Education

  • Bachelors degree required in engineering, physics, computer science or related field, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

  • N/A

Additional Requirements:

  • In depth understanding of technical and workflow aspects of the medical informatics process

  • Demonstrated ability to apply experience and knowledge to informatics solutions within the constraints of a clinical environment.

  • Strong skills required in leadership, critical thinking and analysis, problem solving, verbal and written communications, and interpersonal interactions (e.g. partnering, conflict management, consulting, etc.).

  • Knowledge of electronic medical informatics technology and integration practices and industry standards required.

  • Knowledge of general information technology required.

  • General knowledge of medical imaging operations and health care delivery practices required.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

\Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in supporting technical aspects of medical imaging devices and systems and architecting medical imaging systems solutions.

  • Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Business, Public Health, or related field preferred.

  • Clinical Education and Certification/Licensure.

  • Epic Certification.
