Amazon Sr. Data Engineering Manager, Seller Growth & Development in Seattle, Washington

We are looking for an experienced, innovative Sr Manager, Data Engineering to define and build our new data strategy at SPS level. In this role, you will drive our data engineering technical solution through a federated and curated data layer and central governance mechanisms to solve two main 3rd party seller facing problems: data inconsistency and inability to join data from different business domains. You will work with internal domain data owner teams and consumer teams at all levels of different organizations – FBA, Ads, Pricing, Promotion, and many others. The potential candidate will enjoy the challenges and rewards of working in a fast-growing organization and at a global scale to develop and support the data, analytical and technologies that enable our teams to build seller facing UI, download and API experiences.

  • End to end ownership of data engineering team, including gathering problems and inputs from sellers, leadership and partner teams, roadmap planning and prioritization, promoting best practices, and hiring, mentoring and developing your team

  • Establishing and leading solutions across multiple teams. Lead data and automation instrumentation during the development lifecycle for new products and services

  • Driving central governance to provide curated data to various teams to build seller facing experience.

A day in the life

You will be part of an agile and talented engineering team following innovative best practices where you'll lead team on technical designs and architecture. To empower our seller facing applications, you will interact with various roles of different skill sets, including PM, Scientist, Seller Consultant and other staked holders to gather requirements, support feasibility analysis and to provide technical solutions to provide highly accurate data insight generation. One of the important aspects of the role is to develop the best, and you’ll have opportunities to build team and mentor others by sharing your knowledge across multiple teams.

About the team

SG&D (Seller Growth & Development) is the growth and development engine for Amazon Selling Partners (SPs) World Wide. Leveraging science partnerships across Amazon, we catalyze SP growth with comprehensive and accurate data, unique insights, and actionable recommendations and collaborate with WW SP facing teams to drive adoption and create feedback loops. We believe that any motivated SP should be able to grow their businesses and reach their full potential by using our scaled, automated, and self-service tools.

SG&D amplifies the growth trajectory of any Selling Partner WW through scaled and self-service software solutions. To achieve that, we provide SPs with ground truth data about what end-customers seek, leverage science to create insights about their businesses, and produce recommendations on where opportunity exists, in a unified and seamless experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 10+ years of professional experience

  • 5+ years of experience of developing and operating large-scale data infrastructure

  • 5+ years of relational database technology (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL) experience

  • 3+ years of processing data with a massively parallel technology (such as Redshift, Spark or Hadoop based big data solution) experience

  • 5+ management experience, including managing managers

  • Experience in communicating with senior management and stakeholders verbally and in writing

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java or Scala

Preferred Qualifications

- - - Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark

- - - Experience with AWS Tools and Technologies (Redshift, S3, EMR, Glue, Athena, Airflow)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $161,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $314,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
