Job Description Summary:

Hiring Range From $95,000Infusion nurse practitioners are Specialists who work in a clinic and/or infusion suite setting. They provide Specialty and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests, prescribe medication, oversee infusion administration and assure accuracy of all medications provided for children and adults.

A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice nurse that helps with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. The NP can perform independently or as part of a collaborative agreement with a physician as a treatment team. The infusion nurse practitioner performs the important task of educating patients about infusion care and prescribed treatments. They also conduct physicals, order tests and serve as a patient's Infusion healthcare provider. The nurse practitioners will prescribe infusion and related medications within a given state’s scope of practice guidelines and/or collaboration agreement with a physician.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)

  • Initiates, develops, implements, and oversees infusion plans of treatment; evaluating patient progress towards goals. Evaluates and manages patients and their infusion therapies and follows their course care.

  • Evaluates and manages direct patient care, develops orders for medication regimens, communicates with referring providers, performs treatments, administers medications, and educates patients and families/caregivers. Modifies plan of treatment in response to changing patient status or consultation with referring physician to establish revise patient plan of care.

  • Assesses patient needs and physical status at each clinic visit through health data access and patient interview. Assessments can be done either in person or via virtual visit (Telehealth) technology.

  • Re-evaluates patient needs through physical reassessment, evaluating response to therapy, and making supplemental changes to patient care as indicated within scope of practice.

  • Provides effective and safe teaching using a patient-centered care approach for patient and family to achieve independence with prescribed therapy, when indicated, and ensures care needs are met through active participation in plan of treatment interventions to achieve established goals.

  • Effectively and timely communicates with Clinical team, referring medical providers, practice staff, patients and families/caregivers to facilitate continuity of care.

  • Prepares clinical documentation in real-time during visits and documents in electronic medical record of Option Care Infusion Suites choice to comply with established time lines for billing optimization. Completes all documentation legibly, and applies approved abbreviations and documentation error correction practices per Option Care Infusion Suites policy.

  • Coordinates patient treatment, prepares patient discharge instructions and communicates with providers to ensure continuity of care.

  • Demonstrates compliance with Option Care Infusion Suites’ policies and procedures, professional standards and local, state, federal regulations/guidelines.

  • Oversees all clinical activity in the provider-based clinic.

  • Oversees clinical staff to maximize work efficiency through the use of computers and other automation technologies to validate plan of treatment, communicate patient care provided, and confirming/optimizing the visit schedule.

  • Responds promptly and appropriately to patient requests and questions.

  • Initiates emergency procedures as necessary within scope of practice alerting and notifying the appropriate personnel or emergency responders.

  • Accepts accountability for own practice through ethical and professional conduct.

  • Maintains all required payer credentialing as indicated by location and service line including governmental payers (i.e. Medicare, Medicaid).

  • Provider NPI will be credentialed in association with the Tax ID and group NPI as related to Option Care Infusion Suites and assigns benefits from payers to Option Care Infusion Suites for revenue cycle efficiency.

  • Provider NPI and DEA will be used for inventory account(s) creation and medication ordering.

  • Manages inventory through established protocols.

  • Manages formulary per Option Care Infusion Suite’s guidelines.

  • Drives key operational and clinical initiatives as directed.

  • Follows established programs and practice within policies and procedures reflective of Option Care Infusion Suites, mission, values and objectives.

  • Observes legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and proprietary Option Care Infusion Suites information including adherence to HIPAA regulations.

  • Speaks knowledgeably about Option Care Infusion Suites scope of services and effectively instructs patients about related financial obligations for care and service charges.

  • Attends and completes required training modules, in-services, and continuing education to maintain competency and professional licensure for demonstrated knowledge regarding the care and management of patients in the home and/or alternate care settings.

  • Participates in multidisciplinary team conferences and provides mentoring to other nurses and providers for orientation and supervisory activities as assigned.

  • Effectively provides oversight and coordination of both clinicians and paraprofessionals in the infusion clinic setting and may act as the Supervisor as applicable in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Establishes and oversees all clinical on-call responsibilities.

  • Actively participates in the facility’s process improvement program for Option Care Infusion Suites

  • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor

  • Will maintain active ACLS and PALS certification.

  • Will follow all requirements and guidelines of Option Care Infusion Suites.

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill infusion patients.

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age, diagnosis, and therapy specific needs.

  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.

  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.

  • Facilitates the patient’s transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.

  • Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications and/or Experience Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program

  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure

  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area

  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); PALS provider card as required by department and facility

  • Minimum of 1 year APN experience in a clinical setting

  • Previous infusion therapy experience required.

  • Active, unrestricted state license and DEA registration required

Basic Qualifications

  • Previous experience with electronic charting

  • Effective verbal, written and electronic communication skills

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel between local infusion centers as needed.

Preferred Qualifications & Interests

  • Experience with the oversight and administration of IV biologics

  • Supervisory experience

  • Previous telehealth experience

Due to some state pay transparency laws, below is the minimum pay for the position:

Salary to be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
