Job Description

This search will be for one (1) position, a 9-month open rank professor appointment in the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling. The CMHC program received the 8-full-year CACREP accreditation in 2021. The search will start immediately and end no later than June 1, 2024, so onboarding and training can occur before the Fall 2024 term start and start date of September 1.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • One course release for the first year to attend the mandatory on-campus weekly new faculty investment program (except for Summer)

  • CACREP Liaison of the CMHC program

  • Advise, mentor, and supervise students.

  • Attend required in-person meetings and commencement every semester on campus, as well as periodic virtual programmatic, departmental, college, and university meetings.

  • Lead with a vision to develop and enhance programs in the department.

  • Build a strong program aligned with the University’s mission as a Hispanic-serving institution.

  • Address the educational needs of a diverse population of students.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and sustain a collegial environment to fulfill the needs and meet strategic goals of the department, college, and university.

  • Actively participate in service to programmatic, departmental, college, and university committees.

  • Be available during regular business hours (Mon-Fri, 8 am-5 pm) to interact with campus staff, the department chair, and program colleagues in a timely manner and respond to emails promptly and within 24 hours.

Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution or in Rehabilitation, if earned before January 1, 2018

  • 18 graduate hours for every field taught from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Currently fully licensed LPC/LMHC/LMFT in the US. Please include your license number.

  • Evidence of teaching excellence in a hybrid or an online delivery format

  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a research agenda

  • Teaching load: 4/4. Summer courses are provided but not guaranteed.

  • Willing to teach evening practicum, internship, and group counseling classes in a virtual format

  • Competency in teaching most courses in the CMHC program

  • Credentials sufficient to be an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor based on the College of Education and Human Performance Tenure and Promotion guidelines at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling:

The Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling is housed in the College of Education & Human Performance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Hispanic-serving institution. The department, with 11 full-time faculty, offers Master of Science degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling and Guidance, Adult Education, Educational Administration, Instructional Technology; a doctoral program in Educational Leadership; and transcripted certificates in Higher Educational Administration and Leadership and STEM Leadership.

The Counseling Program offers two programs 100% online: 48 hours of Counseling and Guidance (EDCG, non-CACREP-accredited) and 60 hours of Clinical Mental Health Counseling (EDCM), which is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) for 8 years since 2021. TAMUK is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The School Counseling and Guidance program is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification.
